Kohbar Painting
Kohbar is a ritualistic painting from Bihar (hence it is a subset of madhubani)
It is a new variation of a well known art form. With this you will not only create a beautiful rustic monochromatic painting but you will also learn the traditional and regional meaning of each and every motif and symbol used in these paintings that I researched and learnt directly from artists from Poorvanchal. All married women from my part of India (Up & MP) practice this art form as a part of their Karwachauth celebration every year. So it has always been a part of our family customs.
Traditionally in Mithila Kohbar paintings are made specially for the weddings and are displayed in the newly married couple's room. Lots of fun stories and beliefs exist in the oral tradition around this concept.
